Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Keskin Avcı, from Turkey, is selected to “Global Young, Academy – GYA’ membership in engineering. She is working as a faculty member in Koç University, Chemical and Biology Engineering Department.
Global Young, Academy, positioned as the umbrella organization of science academies operating all over the world, has 200 selective science leader members from more than 70 countries. Open to all researchers below the age of 40 from various different disciplines of science, also including natural sciences, medicine, engineering, social sciences, literature and humanities, Global Young, Academy aims to bring young scientists together and increase the dialogue between them.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Keskin has last year been the first science woman in engineering discipline deemed worthy of a fund of 1.5 million Euros from the European Research Council with her COSMOS project conducted in order to speed up the search for a material assuring capture of carbon dioxide causing global warming by using innovative calculation techniques and methods. Keskin has filed an application to Global Young, Academy by making a preparation focused on "Women in Science". As a result of an assessment made by considering not only the academic achievements of the applicant, but also her contributions to cooperation with industries, her works conducted in the interests of business world, government and public, extensive scientific communication, initiatives for education of young scientists, and pioneering standing in her academic groups, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Keskin was the first woman member selected from Turkey in the “engineering” discipline.
